Director, Network Operations reporting to VP level responsible for a
small staff in a matrixed organization and daily operations, maintenance and monitoring of
real-time mission critical network infrastructure. MUST have a strong hands-on management
style accompanied by an expert level background in IP internetworking and real-time

Experience in a broad range of technology disciplines including the design,
implementation and support of large scale switched Ethernet and IP routed infrastructures.
Knowledge and experience in managing and maintaining highly available LAN, MAN, WAN and
legacy TDM architectures. Intimate understanding of network management protocols,
management platforms, element management systems and diagnostic monitoring tools that
provide data capture, analysis, storage, visualization and fault correlation. The position
also requires exceptional communication and influencing skills with a proven ability to
work with cross-functional teams. Proven success record with projects delivered on time,
within budget and to client satisfaction. Strong business exposure and acumen with the
ability to speak both business and technical "languages" and summarize value
propositions to technical staff and executive level management.
Technology expertise will include:
Conceptual understanding of copper and fiber premise distribution systems and structured
wiring. Thorough understanding and working knowledge of shared and switched Ethernet
topologies. Comprehensive knowledge of MAC layer bridging functions, 802.1d Spanning Tree
Protocol Specifications and industry standard and proprietary link aggregation techniques
and methodologies. MAN and WAN protocol proficiency in sub-rate multiplexing, TDM, T1 and
T3 networking, SONET, RPR, HDLC, PPP, Frame Relay and ISDN. Ability to perform and analyze
packet captures and decodes using network analyzers and RMON probes. Strong experience in
troubleshooting and purging MIB-II and enterprise specific mib variables and counters,
Ethernet bridging tables, ARP caches and IP routing tables. Experience in configuring,
deploying and maintaining network management systems. Fundamental understanding of the
UNIX Operating System. Experience in system and network administration of the SUN Solaris
OS is desirable.
Intimate working knowledge of the TCP/IP protocol specification with specific regards
to the following subset of protocols and applications:
ARP, Static Routing, RIPv1/2, OSPF, BGP4, VRRP, HSRP
IP Multicast and Broadcast
IGMPv2, DVMRP, PIM-SM, UDP directed broadcast
BOOTP, DHCP
NTP, RMON I and II, SNMP
DNS, FTP, NFS, TELNET, SMTP, X11
Experience in Microsoft networking protocols.
Experience in configuring and managing Nortel Networks Intelligent Internet Products
(or equivalent industry experience with similar products):
BayStack Ethernet and Passport 8600 routing switches.
BayRS routers; ARN, ASN, BCN and BLN-2.
Strong conceptual knowledge of the configuration and implementation of IP traffic
filters, route policies and route redistribution techniques. Conceptual understanding of
Wireless LANs with specific detail to 802.11a and its embedded security architectures for
authentication and encryption services. Proficiency in MS Office, Project and Visio.
